Quaggy River leaflet for the Environment Agency

The Quaggy River (great name) runs through part of London, and has had a lot of work done on it to alleviate flooding and generally restore it as an amenity for local people to use. The Environment Agency wanted to promote this work as an example of best practice. What had been derelict wasteland where no one would for fear of crime has been turned into wildlife areas and parks as well attractive river settings used widely by the local community.

The leaflet had to be short and easy to read. But it also had to present the serious side of the work, because part of the remit as to produce something to persuade local authorities and other public sector organisations to realise the benefits that come from such schemes.

Writing for a wide audience, from local residents to public sector professionals and fund-holders, is not especially difficult, as all those involved will appreciate clarity. But it does require careful crafting and organisation of the material.
