Editor of Business First
Business First magazine is published twice a year – in May
and October - and has a print run of over 25,000. It is published by
LawNet, on behalf of more than 50 law firms around the UK. Each of
the firms sends the magazine out to its business clients.
I've been editing the magazine since it was launched in 1998.
The articles and features in Business First are intended to be of
practical use to busy business people. They contain sound advice, useful
facts and information on recent developments in the business world.
The contributors themselves are professional business people and academics
who are experts in their field. Every article is designed to
help the reader to take some specific action to improve the smooth
running
and profitability of their business.
However, while the contributors
are specialists in their field - be it employment law or franchising
- they are not professional writers.
All the articles need editing, while some need complete rewrites. I plan each edition, generate and handle article submission and edit
the articles. These are then sent the designers, before going to
print. This means I deal with just about every stage of the editorial
process - from deciding which articles are good enough to writing the
headlines on the cover page.
